Wort.lu - Great story about Luxembourg Veteran Cycling Champions

My Orchids. Naples Florida. Photo ET

Two of the great Champions of Luxembourg Cycling of the post-war years, Bim Diederich and Jempy Schmitz donated their personal memorabilia to the Luxembourg National Sports Institute.

Wort.lu - Großzügige Geste zweier Legenden

The article, in German, has a number of soundtracks in Luxembourgish, though Bim Diederich, still the fast talking Champ I have known, mixes in a good dose of French. Fun to hear them both again.

Cargolux: un nouveau chapitre, MRO

Le soleil se couche aussi. Naples, Florida. Photo ET

Tax Justice Network: Luxembourg, Austria continue to block Europe transparency

Tax Justice Network: Luxembourg, Austria continue to block Europe transparency

"European tax havens could face sanctions including blacklisting when the European Commission issues clampdown measures later this year, Taxation Commissioner Algirdas Šemeta has told EurActiv in an interview."

There we are again. Luxembourg blacklisted by whom at the European Commission? Fact is, that pressure will not go away for Luxembourg and Austria.

The Luxembourg Finance Minister Luc Frieden argues that Luxembourg is not a tax haven, that it has numerous OECD - type of double taxation agreements, and actually collects taxes from foreign entities. He may win the legal argument, but lose the Public Relations and fairness argument. Not sure if he doesn't understand the nuances, or if it is skillful political posturing.

There is a line of action though, as it is also unthinkable for Luxembourg to give up on its financial center. Just get it to work beyond the suspicion lines such as IMF inspections, FATF reviews and of course European Commission bickering.

Maybe Tax Justice Network has some guidelines for reform and on how to clean up the problem and become the white knight instead of the blacklisted. Though don't go for Mr Hollande's Opus on Taxes.

Killing a man with an axe cannot be considered a heroic deed, Luxembourg’s FM says : Public Radio of Armenia

Article published by Radio Armenia, the real "Radio Yerevan", on the occasion of FM Jean Asselborn's visit to Armenia.

Killing a man with an axe cannot be considered a heroic deed, Luxembourg’s FM says : Public Radio of Armenia

Let's highlight three key informations:

First, it is probably a mystery to most Luxembourg readers, why killing a man with an ax cannot be considered a heroic deed. It is believed that somehow an assassin was set free, which causes of course emotional upheaval. Our national hero, John the Blind, did similar things at the Battle of Crécy in 1346.

Second, which actually should be first, Luxembourg is going to have a resident ambassador in Yerevan.

Third, I didn't listen to Radio Ankara.
