Luxembourg reverse-reverses its Middle East Policies

Luxembourg reverse-reverses its Middle East Policies

Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in his job for nearly 2 decades, is known to be a welcome guest in Tehran. He was even seen in 2014 attending the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Khomeini. FARS News even reported that “Luxembourg is against the US led unilateral sanctions against Iran.” Asselborn has also been known to support Hamas, the Party of God, and Hezbollah, the Islamic Resistance Movement, both labeled by the US and the EU as terrorist organizations. And according to Asselborn, the 2020 Peace Treaty between the UAE and Israel isselling out the Palestinian cause. A treason of sorts among Arabs according to him. That’s the same position that Palestinians, Iran, and Turkey took.

For some unexplained reasons Asselborn now supports the same UAE after an attack by Houthi terrorists supported by Iran.  This is how we learn the news about a 180 degrees swing in Asselborn's language, as reported by WAM, the Emirates News Agency:

“ABU DHABI, 21st January, 2022 (WAM) -- Luxembourg has condemned the terrorist attack by the terrorist Houthi militia on civil areas and facilities in the UAE.

This came in a phone call between H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, who affirmed his condemnation and denunciation of the terrorist attack, stressing his country's full support for the measures taken by the UAE to ensure the safety and security of its people and its territorial integrity.

The top diplomat extended his condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist attack, wishing speedy recovery to the injured.

Luxembourg Pledges to Liberia’s Airport Security

Read this quote in the Daily Observer, Monrovia:

"The Deputy Prime Minister of the Duchy of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, has pledged his country’s commitment to helping with the training of Liberian airport security personnel."

In fact Luxembourg is buying votes in Monrovia and Conakry for a silly ambition to get elected member of the UN Security Council. As if it mattered to anyone else as to a couple of zealous diplomats.

Here is the quid pro quo:

"Diplomatic sources told our reporter on Capitol Hill Tuesday that the Duchy of Luxembourg is seeking support from African countries to back its bid for a position on the UN Security Council."

Sad and embarrassing for a country that used to follow principled policies. But hey, we just borrowed Euros 1 billion. We can buy all the votes we need!

Politics.Hu: Hungarian deputy PM hits back at comments by Merkel, Luxembourg FM

Luxembourg: Roude Léiw huel Séi!

Luxembourg is asserting itself. The Prime Minister of Luxembourg, his Deputy Prime Minister and who knows who else have definitely chosen to go on a collision course with evildoers, simplistic minds, radicals, non-radicals, those who are against, those who are in favor, well the whole tutti frutti. The punished have been the UK's Tony Blair, the French President, Frau Merkel, Israel, Switzerland and now Hungary.

This is only a warming up period. Wait until you see us getting up there at the UN Security Council in 2013! We'll teach you a severe lesson if you don't behave!
